Hit a nice pocket! Cheesy
This is just one of the several crystals I got. You can see another crystal above it in the pocket, as well as another one just below it!  I will post more pics once I get everything cleaned up.

Wow, that does look like a nice pocket!  Well done Fire!  Your prospecting skillz are stellar.   Also, I know how hard it is to take the time to take a picture of the crystal in situ before pulling it out.  It takes patience and mental restraint to do that, so well done with that too!   Grin

Yeah I was very tempted to just hurry up and dig it out but I thought it would make a cool picture.

Hope your pocket keeps going if it hasn't tapped, nothing better than pulling crystals.

Fire,

There use to be an old gold prospect off 134 on the left back in the woods just before you get to Substation Rd. fork. The old road back in to it ran beside the Subtation itself and was posted. Anyway, many years ago I was shown this place and being an old gold mine, it had quartz veins. We walked out on a ledge of quartz that was above the small pit about 30 feet. The ledge was dangerous and we only had about 2'-0" to stand on. In this ledge of quartz were small crystals of quartz with perfect little hematite roses on them. Small but beautiful little things. THe fellow who took me there was looking to find something much rarer. He had actually found Sylvanite crystals coating some of the quartz. Sylvanite is a telluride of silver and gold and found mostly out west in Colorado, California, etc. Anyhow, we didn't find any on our trip but he did have a couple from earlier trips. They were only 1/2mm or less but brilliant little xls on the quartz. The day I was there, I got stung by a nest of yellow jackets and started to swell so I was forced to leave. I never made it back after that last trip. That was many years ago. I did make an attempt to go back some years ago but was turned away by the land owner. There are several old quartz quarries in the immediate area. That would be a cool mine to "re-find" if not for the hematites but the sylvanite to which there are vaque references in historical records of this location. Anyway, like the Food Lion Lion, that's just my two-cents". Cheers! Mike

Hmmm... Sounds interesting.  Gold Prospecting is my main thing so I love finding places where I can possibly find gold and crystals!  Cheesy

I did a night dig in Montgomery County last night. Was out until about 10:00. I dug at a place I have been to several times before but usually didn't find nice stuff, mostly broken midsections of crystals. Last night I hit some nice ones! Some of them have some wormy chlorite inclusions in them.
The pictures don't really do them justice... but they never do Smiley

I tried to get a pic up close of some of the inclusions but it didn't turn out too good.

Yeah they are kinda strange.  I think I'm gonna try to go back to this spot Wednesday if the weather cooperates.  I got into a good layer just before I left and I think there are some awesome pieces hiding there Smiley

I had a few hrs to spare this evening, so I decided to grab my headlamp and dig some crystals! Ended up with some beautiful smoky crystals! This is only a sneak peak of what i found tonight. I got a bag full of crystals! I can't wait to see everything once I get them all cleaned up!!!  Grin
I will post more pics later.

Wow, really cool.  Well done.  Smoky quartz crystals are not common in that area.  I too can't wait to see your finds cleaned up.  Thanks for the update!   Cheesy
